Whether showing properties, meeting with clients, or working late hours, realtors should always prioritize their safety. In this article, we'll explore some crucial safety tips and provide valuable resources that can help realtors stay safe on the job.
Safety Tips for Realtors
- Meet in Public Places: When meeting new clients for the first time, it's advisable to schedule meetings in public locations like a coffee shop or your office. This initial meeting allows you to get to know the client in a safer environment.
- Share Itinerary: Always let someone know your schedule and whereabouts, especially if you're going to an unfamiliar location or showing a property alone. Share your itinerary with a trusted colleague or family member.
- Trust Your Gut: If something feels off during a meeting or while showing a property, trust your instincts. If a situation makes you uncomfortable, it's perfectly acceptable to leave or reschedule.
- Use Technology: There are various safety apps and tools designed for real estate professionals. These apps often have features like GPS tracking, emergency alerts, and the ability to share your location with a designated contact.
- Pre-screen Clients: When working with new clients, ask for identification and consider background checks if necessary. It's essential to gather as much information as possible about potential clients.
- Self-defense Training: Enroll in self-defense classes to gain the confidence and skills needed to protect yourself in emergencies. Knowledge of self-defense techniques can be invaluable in dire situations.
